ABOUT ME
As you may have guessed- my name is Eddie! I'm 25 years old, and I've lived in Kalamazoo, Michigan my entire life.
I'm currently pursuing a degree in Web Design at Kalamazoo Valley Community College.
Web Design is something I've been interested in for a few years now, ever since I discovered that I really enjoy the process of working with HTML and CSS.
The jury's still out on PHP.
Regardless, the process of creation- either with physical tools, art software, or even just code like this- is extraordinarily fulfilling for me.
Which of course brings me to my other activity showcased on this website- art.
I've been working with my pixel art style since around 2012- 13 years ago at the time of writing! It (and I) have had a long time to mature and grow and become influenced
by other media- plenty of video games, webcomics, and so on have contributed to the amorphous mass of metastasized bootlegs that I charitably refer to as a coherent art style.
What's that phrase, "good artists steal"? Someone said something like that.
My main influences (on my artstyle) are UNDERTALE by Toby Fox, LANCER by Massif Press, and the Pokemon franchise.
"Eddie Knudsen's art is primarily based around limitations within digital mediums- working with extremely small canvases, limited color palettes, et cetera- so as to replicate the visual styles associated with a particular subset of video games, old and new, which was shaped by their hardware limitations and later by nostalgia surrounding these limitations- these include older, long-running juggernauts of the gaming industry such as Pokemon or Final Fantasy, alongside newer works such as UNDERTALE or Terraria. Eddie's style eschews many of the techniques typical of digital art, being created using a mouse and keyboard and in freely available image editing software- a holdover from the style's origins in hobbyist work on school computers- as opposed to tools like a tablet and dedicated artistic suites, and as such relies on a different set of skills to provide clarity to the viewer when extreme detail isn't possible. Each individual pixel must be placed with thought to its surroundings to ensure that a design is effectively communicated to the viewer from afar."
